Choose how you want to travel
There is no single correct way to explore Central Asia.
You may want Kathryn to host a small group from beginning to end. You may prefer to travel independently with a well-researched itinerary. Or you may have only a few days and want to turn a flight connection into a worthwhile stopover.
Travel Further offers three distinct ways to begin.
Personally hosted journeys
Very small groups. Carefully planned. Flexible in practice.
Travel Further hosted journeys are generally designed for four to eight travellers.
Each journey has a considered route, confirmed transport and accommodation, and a clear sense of what makes the destination worthwhile. But it is not run as a rigid procession through a checklist of attractions.
Before departure, Kathryn learns what matters to the people travelling. During the journey, there is room to vary the emphasis, make intelligent changes and take advantage of opportunities that arise.
A hosted journey may suit you when:
you want to travel somewhere unfamiliar without managing the logistics;
you prefer a group small enough to feel personal;
you value flexibility more than a tightly scripted tour;
you would like company but do not want a large coach group;
you want someone with first-hand regional knowledge travelling alongside you.
How hosted journeys begin
You can:
join a departure with announced dates;
ask Travel Further to create a private journey for your own group;
register interest in a destination and be matched with a few compatible travellers.
Independent journey planning
Your journey, supported by first-hand knowledge
Independent travel offers freedom, but researching Central Asia can become complicated.
Train availability, border crossings, internal flights, local drivers, seasonal access and accommodation standards are not always obvious from international booking platforms.
Travel Further can help turn your interests, timeframe and budget into a route that works.
Travel consultation
A focused online session for people who already have an outline but need practical advice.
Suitable for:
reviewing a proposed route;
deciding between destinations;
checking whether timings are realistic;
identifying missing experiences;
resolving transport and border questions.
You receive a written summary following the consultation.
Complete journey design
A day-by-day itinerary designed around your dates, interests, pace, accommodation preferences and budget.
Depending on the journey, this can include:
recommended routing;
realistic travel times;
accommodation recommendations;
trains, flights, drivers and transfers;
activities and local guides;
restaurants and food experiences;
border and visa considerations;
booking links and practical instructions;
contingency options.
You make the bookings and retain control of the journey.
Journey arrangement
In selected destinations, Travel Further can also arrange accommodation, transport, local guides and activities.
The scope, payment arrangements and cancellation conditions will be confirmed before work begins.
Central Asia stopovers
Do more than change planes
Central Asia can work well as a stop between New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
A stopover plan is designed around your actual arrival and departure times, not a generic list of attractions.
Options may include:
one or two days in Tashkent;
Tashkent with a fast-train visit to Samarkand;
an Almaty city and mountain stopover;
a three-to-five-day introduction to Uzbekistan;
advice on the most practical flight route through the region.
Your plan can cover:
where to stay;
airport and station transfers;
a realistic daily itinerary;
transport instructions;
restaurants;
guides and experiences;
luggage and connection logistics.
